The Brief
Business Goals
An app enabling recruiters to interact with the ROVER database, unlocking HR data’s potential.
It serves as a true partner to recruiters, transforming them from analysts into strategic revenue generators to drive immediate and long-term sales and marketing value for a competitive edge.
Challenges
- Time consuming data analysis which doesn’t lead to immediate value after onboarding. This caused Rover internal team to send job leads manually by emails everyday.
- Recruiters had difficulty in identifying actionable insights from the data provided and can’t integrate ROVER database to their workflow intuitively.
Research
Methods
Heuristics, competitor analysis, user and stakeholder interviews, HMW questions, MVP
Through user interviews, we uncovered frustration with complex UI and poor onboarding. This led to support dependency and a 70% dropout rate within two weeks for new clients.
Our internal research shows that ROVER was difficult to use due to this combination of factors: poor visual hierarchy, an outdated layout and light colors on bright backgrounds with busy looking data tables.
This analysis revealed that ROVER’s platform felt like an adversary, not the partner the business intended it to be.

Key Features
Our focus areas for the redesign revolved around creating a central space for key pages, enhancing the Filter/Sort features, simplify the use of color and overall layout. So recruiters can identify actionable insights from ROVER database.
Onboarding & Subscriptions
The past onboarding process led to significant new-user drop-off and existing users relied heavily on manual support from ROVER.
Solutions:
- We simplified onboarding into a three-step AI-guided process. The AI gathers personalization data to populate the dashboard with tailored job leads and key clients.
- A smart support widget enables seamless self-help navigation reducing dependency on ROVER’s internal team for support.
menu & search
The old design was cluttered and had poor visual hierarchy. Recruiters couldn’t refine relevant searches efficiently.
Solutions:
- Job search filter is now located at the top for quick access with left sidebar filters to further refine results. The new layout creates a more visually organized page.
- Job cards show key details with save/remove options and an expandable icon to view more details.
reports
Previously, recruiters found the My Reports page difficult to use due to its data-heavy layout.
Solutions:
- The Reports page is now categorized into Lead Chasing and Account Management for easy data comprehension and user efficiency.
- Keeping non-tech-savvy users in mind, we simplified charts for clarity. Users can efficiently refine search results through Filter/Sort tabs and tags.
Impacts
We knew we had removed a key frustration for users and a huge operational challenge for ROVER’s internal team when all the users we interviewed agreed in saying that they don’t think they would need the support of a technical person to be able to use the platform.
Future Recommendations
Video
Add 40–60 second interactive hero video plus short guided walkthrough tutorials for independent, effortless platform navigation.
dashboard, filters, account
Enable customizable dashboard with calendar sync, advanced job filters (exclude/include recruiters, salary, day rates, etc) and flexible AI or form-based account setup.
subscription recommendations
Develop enterprise pricing plans and support multiple profiles per account for larger organizations with diverse teams or departments.
This is just the beginning. We’re committed to continuous innovation, constantly pushing boundaries to create a platform that not only meets the needs of today’s recruiters but anticipates the challenges of tomorrow. We believe that by embracing this philosophy, we can empower recruiters to achieve unprecedented success and redefine the future of recruitment.
Reflections
FOCUS ON HIGH IMPACT HIGH VALUE
Our internal and external research yielded valuable insights. Given time constraints, we prioritized core functionalities to ensure a manageable scope.
SPEAK RECRUITER’S LINGO
Most recruiters aren’t tech-savvy. By making the actionable insights from the ROVER database identifiable and providing self-help navigation, we can reduce dependency on support and drive higher user retention rates.
Put Users In The Driver’s Seat
We validated ideas by having recruiters test prototypes through structured tasks. This allowed us to fine-tune key areas before handoff
